Go the Distance 24-hour team relay race 2013 Results
Next race May 9, 2014
The vision of Go the Distance began with ultrarunner and Franklin father of two, Greg Bomhoff. The idea of an "one man Ultra jog-a-thon" was in response to a need for a community to step up when Physical Fitness programs were being cut. Along with GTD co-founder Gina Anixter, they brought the unbelievable concepts of extreme ultramarathon running to the Franklin School community.
Greg Bomhoff began competing in ultramarathon running races in 2005. An ultramarathon by definition is anything beyond the standard 26.2 mile marathon. Since 2005 he has competed in 13 events and has placed first overall in six of those races. Greg prefers the longer of the ultra distances races with only two of the 13 races being less than 50 miles. He has routinely exceeded the marathon distance another 50+ times during training runs for his longer events. Training for an event like the "Go the Distance" run takes a full 6 months and Greg's weekly training miles will peak at well over 100 miles per week about 4 weeks before the event.

"Every year I compete in these ultramarathon races for me. I do it for my health, for my fitness, to challenge myself, to experience the satisfaction of accomplishing a goal and to see how far I can push my body.....to see what I'm made of. Now when I Go the Distance I'm not running just for me. I’ll run for each of the 490 kids of FranklinSchool. I hope to raise money for needed programs while at the same time raise awareness for the importance of health and physical fitness. I hope to motivate and inspire these kids. I want to show them something they will never forget. I want them to see that their bodies are capable of incredible things if their minds will allow them to dream that it’s possible.” Greg Bomhoff
