FRANKLIN SCHOOL

GOES THE DISTANCE

FOR OAK RIDGE ELEMENTARY

Go the Distance was about seeing a need and taking it upon ourselves to see that programs we felt were important had adequate funding to continue. We also understand that there are those out there with greater needs than ours.
In conjunction with our
Go the Distance event, the children of Franklin school sponsored a food drive to benefit the 500 families who attend Oak Ridge Elementary.  Oak Ridge is located just 30 miles down the road in Oak Park, Sacramento and is of similar size to Franklin.   Many of the students at Oakridge participate in the school lunch program. Our food drive assisted a program that was already in place at this school that ensures these children have food and adequate nutrition when they leave school for the weekend.

Our goal for each class was to collect at least 125 non-perishable food items to coincide with the upwards of 125 miles Greg Bomhoff planned to run on our Franklin track on April 22! The students of Franklin school far surpassed that goal and when it was over Franklin delivered over 3200 food items to the children of Oakridge Elementary.
