24 Hour Solo Run

April 22, 2010 ultramarathon runner and father of two, Greg Bomhoff took to the Franklin School track "on a mission". He would run 128.75 miles in 24 hours and the Go The Distance event would bring in over $25,000 to support and raise awareness for school health and fitness programs in jeopardy of being eliminated due to budget cuts. Mission Accomplished!

The following year Greg followed that up by racing in the prestigious Badwater Ultramarathon, "The toughest footrace on the planet" on behalf of Go the Distance.

May 24-24, 2012 Greg will return to the track where it all began only this time he will be
bringing the entire community along with him on his 24 hour run. Beginning at Franklin School he will be joined on the first laps by every one the kids of Franklin School and Loomis Basin Charter. Nearly 1000 kids will help kick off this amazing journey. Simultaneously, the 24 Hour Relay race will kick off on the Franklin track.

From there, Greg and Go the Distance Team will run to each of the schools and bring the Go the Distance event and message to the entire District.

After school hours Greg will return to the track at Franklin to join
hundreds of kids, parents, teachers and others from the community in both of the 5k Family Fun Runs.

As the sun sets and the festivities at the track dissipate, Greg will settle in for a long night of running along with the other 24 Hour Relay runners to keep him motivated to push through the difficult night that lies ahead. Through these hours Greg's support team becomes critical to keeping him properly hydrated and fueled and moving forward at a steady pace.

As the sun rises and the final hours tick down a new energy is found as the kids return to school and the excitement again begins to build. At 8:50am the clock will expire and Go the Distance 2012 will come to an end, but the message it sends will continue running through the Loomis District.
